Who we are

Our history

The Remuneration Association for Educational Institutions (RAEI) was constituted in 2001 in Pretoria, South Africa after a forum was created at a conference.  This forum was officially constituted as the Tertiary Institutions Remuneration Forum.  In 2009 the name was changed to the Remuneration Association for Educational Institutions, abbreviated as RAEI.

How we came about?

The initial forum was created at a national conference for payroll administrators from higher education institutions that was held in Pretoria in September 2001.  The constitution of TIRF was approved at its first Annual General Meeting in September 2002. At the 2009 AGM of TIRF, it was decided to change the name of the forum to the Remuneration Association for Educational Institutions, abbreviated as RAEI.  As of December 2020, Adapt IT is no longer involved in our association.

To collectively address common issues and find common solutions within a network of colleagues from the payroll and human resources administration functions within higher and further education institutions.

The Remuneration Association for Educational Institutions is a nationally recognised professional body of payroll  and human resources administrators that continues to define general best practice for payroll and human resources administration that will keep up to date with current and future developments of these functions within the education sector.

The mission of the Remuneration Association for Educational Institutions is to add valuable contributions towards continuous improvement and development in the payroll and human resources administration functions of higher education institutions.

How we work

The major objective of the RAEI is to affiliate with a recognised national body or bodies, e.g., the SA Payroll Association (SAPA) and/or the SA Rewards Association (SARA), in order to pursue our goals.

Also to arrange collectively for development opportunities for members of the association, e.g., conducting of workshops on new and relevant tax matters, or on new developments in the payroll and human resources administration environment.
